Hauppauge, NY (ContentDesk) January 30, 2006 -- Schneider Optics has announced that four members of the Schneider design team have been recognized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for their design of the Schneider Cinelux Premi?re line of lenses for motion picture projection. This latest Technical Achievement Award for projection lenses is the fourth such award the Academy has presented to members of the Schneider design team.Schneiders award-winning team includes Optical Designers Udo Schauss and Hildegard Ebbesmeier, and Mechanical Designers Nicole Wemken and Michael Anderer. Schneider Cinelux Premi?re lenses have proven to be a quantum leap in projection optics, both in image quality, and in their ability to give users the flexibility to design their image with the lenses variable iris, explained Schneider Optics CEO Dwight Lindsey. Its a wonderful credit to the entire Schneider family to be recognized by The Academy for Cinelux Premi?res unmatched ability to project a superior screen image.
Tests have shown that the Cinelux Premi?re, which features an adjustable f1.7 relative aperture, projects up to 40 percent more light than a standard f2 lens, while producing images with superb uniform edge-to-edge illumination, greater depth-of-field, rich color saturation and ultra-high contrast. Their unique continuously variable iris also enables users to easily achieve optimal screen illumination when changing film formats from flat to scope, without the need to purchase the expensive lamphouse motorized autofocus devices that are often used with ordinary lenses in an effort to maintain constant illumination between formats.
Cinelux Premi?re lenses are the industrys first aspheric lenses for motion picture projection to feature a variable iris. Their aspheric construction enables Cinelux Premi?re lenses to provide high MTF image projection at maximum aperture, while the variable iris allows the user to set the lens for maximum light and depth-of-focus, and to easily balance light levels between film formats, continued Lindsey. They absolutely provide a new dimension in cinema design.Schneider Optics introduced the first lenses in the Cinelux Premi?re line in 2002. In 2005, Schneider completed the line, which now includes 20 lenses in focal lengths ranging from 32.5 mm to 85mm in 2.5mm steps (90mm, 95mm, and 100mm are in development). Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Scientific and Technical Awards are given for devices, methods, formulas, discoveries or inventions of special and outstanding value to the arts and sciences of motion pictures, and that also have a proven history of use in the motion picture industry.
The Technical Achievement Award is given for those accomplishments that contribute to the progress of the industry. Schneider is a leading manufacturer and distributor of optics. In addition to their world-leading cinema projection lenses, Schneider provides their world-renowned filters for motion picture production, and a wide range of lenses, filters and accessories for photographic and industrial uses. The Schneider lens factory in Bad Kreuznach, Germany, has been constantly upgraded since opening in 1913 and is registered ISO9001, the highest such global quality standard.
